Racing SUP-The Point

14'8" x 27.5" The Point
After 14 years of revelutionising the windsurfing scene. Starboard,
leading the SUP revolution, now unviels The Point, a brand new shape
and technology challenging current SUP designs.
When two madly passionate soul surfers and designers, Mark Raaphorst and Svein Rasmussen combining talents to produce the fastest Stand Up Paddle Board in the range, possibly in the water . The Point has been GPS speed tested to reach up to
12.34 km/h on flat water without wind.
The state of the art scooped out deck which feeds into a
double concave deck massively increases the balance by reducing center of gravity much like low profile tyers on your car. At the same time as
it adds ridigity to the board, reducing losses for extra speed.
The sleek 14'8" has enough nose rocker to work very well
even in large ocean swell, one just need to step further back once up
surfing.
Where all those years ahead of the game pays of for Stand Up Paddle Boarding.
The construction is the lightest ever successfully being
applied to any surf, SUP or windsurf board. The 14kg/m3 light density
EPS foam is laminated with 160 grams Carbon epoxy matrix covered by a
0.6 mm thin layer of unidirectional Australian pine wood. There is
extra reinforcement in the standing area.
We believe that a whole new exciting dimension of SUP
will be created through dedicated "point to point" board development.
Down wind races are popular in Hawaii now, and the first competitions
are starting in Europe this year. The famous Paddle Round the Pier In Brighton in July 08 was won by Starboard Team Rider Ekolu Kalama on The Point.
The optional sterring system allows one to paddle
effortlessly with side wind and eliminates paddle strokes for direction
correction. Allowing you to keep training both sides of your body more evenly and thus limiting fatuige and over use of muscles. The sleek system is well integrated into the board design
and can be used with just a little touch from the toes.
The power points for the fastest board from point to point:
Scooped out hull for extra balance
Extra length for maximal glide
Sleek nose rocker for open ocean suitability
EVA wedge on the nose to wash water off the deck
Extra superlight state of the art full wood/carbon construction
Optional steering system to increase paddle efficiency
and physical endurance.
Personally this is a board I would like to own, along with a smaller SUP for waves. Wiht The Point at 12km/h islands and un-developed parts of the coast line in Pattata Thailand would be accessable within a 1-2 hour return journey Paddle.
