Hua Hin SUP Surfing at PKRA kiteboarding event
Surfing in the Gulf of Thailand?
Swell does come into the Gulf of Thailand and it is perfect for New SUP riders to have loads of fun without getting knocked around by the full power of the Ocean Swells found on classic Surfing Beaches.
Many of the Beaches we are visiting for our SUP surfing trips in Thailand are un-developed and very peaceful. Hua Hin on the other hand is a booming tourist town with a long wide sandy beach and an existing water-culture from the extremely popular Kite-boarding scene. In the mornings before the wind starts, the swell comes in glassy lines and you can ride wave after wave. Check the swell chart to see which days are likely to have swell. The in and out-going tides play a role in wave quality also.
SUP Surfing in Hua Hin Thailand - PKRA Kiteboarding event
For 3 days during the event we enjoyed really nice swell, many people tried SUP for the first time and were quickly catching their first waves.
It is better to take your first SUP lesson on flat water without wind, give your body time to learn how to balance and work with the board and paddle. Of course SUP is not just for the Surf, some of our best trips have been on rivers or glassy flat oceans.
These videos show how much fun you can have, in low power small swell. This is still very a very young sport in Thailand, but is so much fun that it will certainly become hugely popular. The Starboard Paddleboards make it fun and easy, yet the more progressive models such as the POD 7'4" also keep pushing the limits of what is possible for individuals and for the sport.
Siamsurfdog drove up from Khao Lak to join us, he brought along the Pocket Rocket 8'5" SUP, which he has been using in Thailand and Indonesia. He is the one ripping on the short Yellow board.
