Imagine a 100kg athlete, using all his skill and strength to hold down up to 12 square meters of sail, and drive all that energy down through a lightweight racing board, and into a thin strip of super stiff Carbon - the fin. The board skims across the water at incredible speed, each year the competition shaves scant fractions of seconds of their best times. So many proto-types and late night re-shaping sessions, so many plane trips to test in different locations. When they come up with a winning shape, if that shape were to twist or flex the wrong way under load or repetitive strain, then all that work would have been wasted. There fore, 40 years of leading edge competitive race, wave and freestyle windsurfing development has pushed not only the shapes but the construction technologies of windsurfing boards and fins through the stratosphere. If you want a leading edge Board shape in a technology miles ahead of your surfboard manufacturer - consider a Starboard.

With around 15 new shapes each year in 4 different technologies - we simply can not keep every model in stock. This also keeps us busy unwrapping and testing new boards, so that we know what to recommend to you, what will work in our schools and for SUP beach rental operations. This is the part of our job that we love. In the last 2 years or so, we have tested over a dozen shapes.

At Blue Lagoon we usually have at least 3 completely different models for you to try, so that you can be very involved in understanding which board or boards will best suite what you expect from a new or used SUP.
